Walmart Has A Mailing Budget

These mailers started showing up in mailboxes all over the place in the last couple of days:

This is only page 2 or 3 of a 4 page mailer.

Whole thing says:

Page 1 - Its time to clean up this property and put it to work for all of Houston
Page 2 - Two guys about to fall on eachother, and they're extremely happy about it, and two walmart people smiling because apparently the apple has just told a funny joke.
Page 3 - Has a Mailer on it and a picture of a guy who is pleased he is obtaining a Dora the Explorer DVD, although he may be slightly too old for it.  The other guy's pants are falling down because his walkie talkie is far too heavy + plus his belt is not properly sized.

Page 4 is a top down view of my neighborhood.  Awesome.  Anyway, big surprise that Walmart feels they have to match up with their own 'grassroots' campaign.  At least the pictures are funny.

  1. When will you be bringing back your Ain and Binder cartoons? I thought they were great.

  2. Hi What have you done to redevelop a underutilized lot in the city?

What have you done to bring jobs into Houston?

What have you done before to clean up a lot that was a previously fenced off toxic zone?

Would you rather have cheap apartments built there that further increase the conjestion on washington ave at late hours from Thurs to Sunday.

What have you done to work with walmart and the developers to bring in additional retail space that will bring additional tax revenue to Houston to make your streets wider?

  3. Hi Anonymous.

Generally, I don't like to engage in any type of 'debate' on this blog. Its my personal blog, with my personal opinions, and I'm not forcing anybody to read it. That said, you raise some valid questions, so I'll give a couple of brief answers.

I think the better question is why is it underutilized? Ainbinder bought it nearly three years ago. They've let the vegetation overgrow, and essentially done nothing with the lot up until now. And they come to the public, and ask for money so they can sell it, after they themselves have underutilized it for several years.

Concerning jobs, I've helped create some, and hired folks into the company I work for.

If the lot is/was a fenced off toxic zone, its not something I'm aware of. I'd love to hear more about it, since I've been living a block away from it for the last 2.5 years.

I'd rather have responsible development, and working with a corporation that wants to take public monies to help them fulfill their business model is simply not what I personally deem responsible.

  4. I haven't received my propaganda yet. It looks from your posting that they don't want to hear from me if my answer is no. Is there an option on the back side to indicate that I don't support their plan? Keep up the good work. I'm quite impressed by your willingness to fight for something you believe in and not just roll over.

  5. Thanks for the support. I don't think WM cares whether you support their plan or not. FB Page is asking people to re-address, and send to the Mayor.
