Wal-Mart has confirmed that it is eyeing a parcel near Yale and Center streets in the Heights, irking residents in the neighborhood.

The store would be part of a larger retail development and would be bordered by Yale on the east, Koehler Street on the north, Bonner Street on the west, and the railroad tracks near Center to the south, according to a site plan obtained by Houston Chronicle business reporter Nancy Sarnoff.

The site plan, from Houston-based developer Ainbinder Co., depicts a 152,000-square-foot Wal-Mart at the west edge of the parcel and shops to the east along Yale, with a 664-car parking lot between them.

The site plan also shows tiny Bass Court being widened and extended to accommodate traffic turning right from an eastbound I-10 feeder road, as well as development in the median between Yale and Heights Boulevard.

A Wal-Mart spokeswoman told Sarnoff the company is interested in the site but did not comment further.

Yeah, way to mail it in chron ... great job catching the ferver and spirit of the 'Greater Heights Area'.  Good that they got some reaction from Tom and Jane of SN22.  I'd just like to have seen them come with some more info from Ainbinder, or WalMart themselves.  Still though, nice to see the reaction portrayed in the news ...
